Professional Interests

I love working from a relational approach because I get to see individuals, couples, and family groups have “aha moments” when they realize the influence that they can have in relation to another person and their situation. My interests include working with those affected by challenging life transitions and various types of loss that can lead to anxiety, depression, and grief. I am passionate about promoting the interests of those in disempowered positions, helping to bring forth silenced voices and perspectives, and standing against bullying in all forms, including relational aggression. I am keenly aware of the need for supporting the emotional and mental health of women—from childhood through adulthood—as well as their partners and families.

My many years of experience as a registered nurse include caring for adult and pediatric clients and families experiencing significant medical crises. I have spent over 25 years working with and advocating for children, adolescents, adults, and their families in roles both as a nurse and a teacher. In addition, I bring the life experiences gleaned from spending over 20 years in the role of the spouse of a pastor. I am willing and able to talk about matters of faith if you choose to do so. Finally, I have learned much about parenting not only from textbooks, but by being a parent to two daughters, both now in early adulthood.
